Amaryllis Theatre Company Opens First Full Season With Philadelphia Premiere Of Rock Doves By Marie Jones November 12-December 7 For Immediate Release: October 24, 2008
Amaryllis Theatre Company opens its first subscription season with the Philadelphia premiere of Dove Rocks by Marie Jones on November 12 through December 7 at Amaryllis Theatre Company’s home in The Playground at the Adrienne (2030 Sansom Street). Directed by Amaryllis Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Mimi Kenney Smith, the play features Phil E. Eichinger, Susan Giddings, Christopher Imbrosciano and Michael Toner. Performances are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings at 7:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM except on Sunday, November 23 at 7:00 PM. There are no performances during Thanksgiving week. Three-play subscriptions at $45 ($40 for seniors and $30 for students) are also available. By turns comic and tragic, Rock Doves, a riveting drama by the acclaimed author of Stones in His Pockets, Rock Doves looks at life on the streets of post “Troubles,” contemporary Belfast, where four misfits--a self-styled loony, a prostitute, a transvestite, and a young, would-be hero-- unravel a mystery of surprising connections among patriots, informers, and the innocent caught in their violent world. “We are looking forward to building our audience base with our first full season and are thrilled to celebrate having our own space. We’re especially honored to be producing two incredible Philadelphia premieres, this first wonderful new Irish play, and Dying City, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, as well as two new solo performances this season,” said Smith. Phil E. Eichinger (Lillian) has appeared in the feature films Men’s Affair and Nacho Mountain and has appeared on Guiding Light, All My Children and As The World Turns. A graduate of Monmouth University, he was a semi-professional ice hockey player before becoming an actor. Susan Giddings (Bella), making her debut with Amaryllis Theatre Company has worked with various theatres in and around Philadelphia and recently played Vivian Bearing in HATG Theater Company’s production of Wit. Christopher Imbrosciano (Boy) has acted regionally in Romeo and Juliet, Making Waves and Seagulls at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Inside/Out and Category Five at the Kennedy Center. Michael P. Toner (Knacker) has appeared previously with Amaryllis Theatre Company as Mr. Rice in Molly Sweeney and Pat in Blood Guilty. In his 37 years as an actor he has specialized in Irish roles, and has appeared at Walnut Street Theatre (Philadelphia, Here I Come!, She Stoops To Conquer, 1776, The Caretaker, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me) ; Arden Theatre (The Weir, Major Barbara); Wilma Theatre (The Woolgatherer, The Cripple of Inishmaan); The James Joyce International Symposium, The New York W.B. Yeats Society, The Edinburgh, Scotland Fringe Festival, and many other venues. Amaryllis Theatre Company is the theatre producing arm of VSA arts of Pennsylvania, an affiliate through VSA arts of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
